(a) Entrance Requirements (For Both MPhil & PhD)
- MPhil in Medical Sciences: Applications should preferably have a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to life sciences OR the degree of MBChB or equivalent.
- PhD in Medical Sciences: Applications should preferably have a Master’s degree in a field related to life sciences OR the degree of MBChB or equivalent.

Application Procedure
Step 1 : Research interests
Approach Professors who are specialized in your proposed research interests by email first. Read more
Step 2 : Online Application
****MUST indicate your research interest/field and name of proposed supervisor in the blank of “Field of study” in the online application form e.g. Cardiology (Prof. XXX from Dept. of Clo / M&T/ Psy /Pae).****
In Application for Admission to Postgraduate Programmes , you may
- Amend your application information in the section "Amend Application" ;
- Upload supporting documents in the section "Upload Supporting Documents”;
- Complete an additional form in the section “HKPFS Supplement” (for HKPFS applicants only)
Step 3 : Supporting documents
Submit the below supporting documents to my office.
- China Identity Copy (both sides) OR Passport Copy (as given in the Application Form)
- Official Academic Transcripts with the grading scheme of academic / professional qualification (issued and sealed by the University)
- Copy of Degree Certificate and Graduation Certificate
- Original English Test Result Report (TOEFL - Internet-based: 79, IELTS - Band 6.5 and GMAT-verbal-Band 21)
- Not necessary for applicants whose education institution of “Medium of Instruction” is English
- Validity of TOEFL and IELTS reports are two years from the test date
- A bank draft of HK$300 for application fee. Please mark payable to "The Chinese University of Hong Kong" (not necessary for credit card payment through online application system)
**Other supplementary documents may be requested to submit upon different situation of applicants**
Step 4 : Selection
Selection committee will consider all applications after the application deadline.
Step 5 : Acknowledgement
The admission offer will be issued by Graduate School by email & A set of “Letter of Award” will be posted to your mailing address(local applicants) OR sent to your email address(non-local applicants) indicated in the application form
Step 6 : Supporting documents
Follow all steps indicated in the email. Important items are listed below:
- Settle the deposit
- Return “Letter of Award” to Graduate School
- Indicate acceptance of admission offer in the system
- Do the online registration in “MYCUHK”
- Apply for the Postgraduate Hall (if necessary)
- Prepare the visa application form (ID995A) and related supporting documents
Step 7 : VISA
The visa label will be posted by Graduate School prior 6 weeks of the admission date.
Step 8 : Admission Notification
Fulfil condition(s) before or on the admission date (if necessary). You may check the condition according to “Admission Notification”.
